Gia Henville
GIA HENVILLE / ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Gia, a student and aspiring software engineer. I love coming across things that surprise me, especially realizing that there is more to learn about something I thought I already knew. I also love getting to know people and learning about lived experiences. How did you get to where you are today? What are you curious about? What can you talk about for hours? For me, that's anything related to AI or discussing a random problem and bantering about whose approach is the best.

I've done two internships as a SWE at GoDaddy, and research at MIT with Station1. I'm currently contributing to an open source project on Quantum ML with Cohere Labs Open Science Community, as well as attending monthly readings with the Consortium for History of Science, Technology and Medicine where I am learning about the history of engineering. So I am very interested in connecting our engineering past with the present and future. I'm passionate about directional science and technology, which is the philosophy that we should be intentional about the things we build.

Besides all that, I love to paint, crochet, play web games, and read webtoons!

ENERGY & ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF AI DATA CENTERS

Modeling Electricity Demand of Data Centers Using GCAM
Conceptual diagram connecting electricity demand scenarios, GCAM energy markets, and generation and emissions outputs.

A collaborative study testing how GCAM represents U.S. data center electricity growth. Our scenarios produced little change in aggregate outputs, raising questions about calibration and model sensitivity.

01 / EXPERIENCE

MAY — JUL 2026 · REMOTE

Software Engineering Intern

GoDaddy / Identity Platform

  • Shipped authentication and account experiences with React and TypeScript, from implementation and testing through code review and deployment.
  • Delivered 10 tickets and 13 story points ahead of internship targets; authored 16 merged pull requests with unit tests and zero post-deployment regressions.
  • Independently scoped and built an A/B/C consent experiment for an initiative with an estimated $1M revenue impact.
  • Authored an RFC for Claude Code tooling to maintain repository context, evaluating architectural tradeoffs and failure risks.

OCT 2025 — FEB 2026 · CAMBRIDGE, MA

Station1 Frontiers Scholar

Station1

  • Selected as one of 19 students nationally for a research fellowship led by MIT faculty examining the societal and environmental impacts of emerging technologies.
  • Led first-author research using GCAM to investigate AI data center electricity growth, the U.S. energy system, and carbon emissions through 2050.
  • Developed and tested scenarios spanning electricity-sector parameters, commercial demand, technology costs, and share-weights to analyze model sensitivity.
